November brings us some important holidays like Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving Day. But November also includes National Young Readers Day, celebrated on the second Tuesday of the month. The creators of this holiday say it is “A day to recognize the joys and benefits of reading.” #nationalyoungreadersday
Some of you may be new readers. You have an exciting and wonderful world of reading ahead of you! There are so many stacks and stacks of great books just waiting for you to discover them.
Since you already love Mister Spunky and His Friends, I am sure that you like to read books ABOUT dogs, but did you know that you could also read books TO DOGS? They LOVE it!
Corridor Therapy Dogs is an organization that partners dogs with school reading groups. It really helps the kids learn to read aloud more clearly and with added confidence. The students get to sit down with a cute puppy and read to them! I bet every dog would love to have this job.
You could also do this at home with your own dog. Go find your copy of your favorite doggie book, Mister Spunky and His Friends and find a comfy spot and start reading aloud. Simple as that! Your pets will love the sound of your voice as you read to them about how Mister Spunky first met sad little Carla Mae, silky haired Buffy and of course cute little Miss Sunshine!
Young Readers Day would be the perfect time to give away some of your books to the local library or school. Some small struggling schools do not have enough money to buy a large selection of good books for the new readers. Maybe you have some books that are not too worn out and you could pack them up and donate them to those that cannot afford them. Or an even BETTER IDEA is to buy a few brand new copies of Mister Spunky and His Friends to donate!
Who is your favorite doggie character from a book? Want to find more books about dogs? Visit Wooftastic Books or Woof Now What both of these sites carry books about dogs and books that dogs wrote! Woof Now What even reviewed Mister Spunky, check it out. Just imagine that if you were not a reader, you never would have met them!
