The Friday following Father’s Day is the Official Take Your Dog To Work Day! So that means that in 2016 TYDTWDay is on June 24th! #takeyourdogtoworkday
Take Your Dog To Work Day was created in 1999 by Pet Sitters International. This fun organization hopes that having a special day like this will remind people to include their dogs in all parts of their lives, not just their home and backyard. It is also a goal to show fellow employees that dog ownership is a beautiful thing and to encourage non-dog lovers to think about adopting a dog that needs a home.
Do your parents ever take their dog to work? Many offices, stores and companies would welcome a sweet pet visit. But it is important to ask permission first of course. They also have to pack a bag for the dog so there is enough water, food and treats to keep them happy in the workplace. Pet Sitters International even has a great website and a free toolkit about Take Your Dog To Work Day! (https://www.petsit.com/takeyourdog)
Can you imagine how excited a dog would be to jump in the car and stay right beside their person all day long? They would love it! Even sleeping under a desk would be more fun than waiting alone at home all day. They would get to meet all the people their person works with every day and the fellow workers could see how great it is to have a pet.
I know what you are thinking. You do not have a job and you are wishing there was a Take Your Dog To School Day, right? I agree! Can you picture a bunch of happy doggies playing on the playground with other dogs and their kids? I bet it would be pretty hard to concentrate on spelling and arithmetic with your puppy in your lap though. The poor teacher would be chasing dogs all day!
But it would be a fun day!
You also might be wondering if there is a special day for taking your cat to work. There is, but it has not caught on as well as Take Your Dog To Work Day. Cats are a little more set in their ways and do not really like to travel in a car as much as dogs do. But June is the Official National Adopt A Cat Month and that is a VERY big deal!
